As the story begins, there is war in London where the story mainly takes place.
Hilda is the main character and her 10-year old daughter Ellen.Hilda's parents are killed from the bombings of the war ; she was caught off guard and was seriously devasted because her husband was at war, her parents are now gone and Ellen is all she got left;however, she has to stay strong for her daughter...
She sends her friend Gertie a message asking if Ellen could stay at her place until London is peaceful again.
They stay at Mabel's house waiting for a reply. She vents out to Mabel a little bit and tries her best to show her tears to her daughter. Hilda decides to go with her daughter becuase she realizes that she cant stay away from her.
Gertie replied saying that she would be glad and honored to have them stay over. She welcomes them at Somerset and takes them to her farm house ( lives in the country).
They feel comfortable and cozy there, the only thing that made them feel weird was Gertie's trousers.
Now they just await as London is safe again...

ReplyDeleteI noticed that Ellen stutters everytime she speaks. Is it because of the petrifying atmosphere she's entrenched in, or is that how she speaks?

ReplyDeleteAnyway... You forgot to mention Mabel who took Hilda and Ellen when they had no where to go since the Father is out fighting and Hilda's parents died during the attack. And that Mabel was really nice and offered that they can stay as long as they have no where to go.

& ya i thought he was dead until i reached chapter 3 so nevermind (a)
i see those trousers grabbed much attention..hahaha
ReplyDeletei feel like they mean something, i mean their awkwardness will play some kind of role later in the story.
and chereen, ya most definitely ellen is stutterring because of the trauma she has been through...poor girl :(
